I can’t tell you how excited I am to be heading back to CreativeLive on March 9 to teach another class

Newborn Photography Bootcamp with Kelly Brown!!!

My Bootcamp is going to cover every aspect of the newborn photography world!  And it’s not just for beginners it’s for photographers of all levels.  For the newcomers to our industry it’s going to guide you on how to set up your baby photography business.  And for experienced newborn photographers it will uncover new skills and services for you to apply to your existing businesses – so you can get to that next level.

I’m going to be sharing in depth with you…

  • Posing for newborns – Everything from the most-requested classic poses to more advanced and creative posing using the safest possible ways.
  • How to set up a home studio – What you need, what you don’t, and how to create a safe, polished, and inviting space.
  • Props – How to make your own props and safely pose babies in and around props.
  • Business and marketing – Pricing, policies, and generating the right publicity that will attract your target market.
  • Safety – Best practices for handling infants will be a key theme throughout the series.
  • And Post processing – how to give your images that finished look on screen right through to the final printed product.

I will also demonstrate my flow of posing for newborns and every variation there is to each pose, so you will have everything you need to get incredible shots. You’ll also learn how to create beautiful soft lighting and how to use it.  And my favourite – shooting timeless images that your parents will love for years to come.

I’m going to be sharing ALL of my tips and tricks so don’t miss it!

I’m home from another incredible trip to creativeLIVE in Seattle!!!

My family and friends have all been so excited to hear what is was like this time back but I’m finding it really hard to describe an experience that’s like no other and just how much gratitude I have right now.  The team at creativeLIVE is like a family, they are so open and genuine and I have made life long friends there.

When Sue Bryce and I started to talk about teaching a class on maternity and baby photography.  I couldn’t think of anyone better to teach how to photograph the beauty of a pregnant women, and for me I was just completely honored to have been asked to share my love of photographing babies along side her.  So on the 23rd August we taught our very first class together on creativeLIVE called Bumps to Babies – Photographing Motherhood.

Sue has been a HUGE inspiration to me over the last few years.  She is always so incredibly generous with her knowledge and time and  has become a truly amazing friend.  Our aim in going on creativeLIVE is to help inspire and teach as many as we can so that our industry becomes stronger as a whole.

On day 1 we had 14 babies come into the creativeLIVE studio to be photographed.  I wanted to show just how unique every baby is not just in their personalities but as they develop in their first year with every month.   They were all so much fun to photograph – and had a few in the cL house clucking!  Day 2 was all about photographing families, Sue demonstrated how to pose families together so that everyone looked beautiful, comfortable and connected.  The main message of the day was YOU MUST EXIST IN IMAGES FOR YOUR FAMILY.  And on Day 3 Sue worked with 4 gorgeous pregnant women, showing beautiful simple posing techniques that can be used in any setting.  And to finish the day off Sue taught a powerhouse marketing segment that is not to be missed!

And then there’s the bonus material!!!  Sue, myself and Karen Willmore from Digital Mastery (Brilliant Designer) put together the following: a Month to Month Description of a Babies First year.  There’s a Maternity Posing Manual, a Family Posing Manual & Marketing Templates that include Birth Announcements, Online Proofing Cards, Session Reminders, a Digital Baby Scrap Book, Plus the Keynotes from all 3 days & Premature Twins and Maternity Posing Videos.

There is just so much packed into this class!!!

We also had 9 amazing photographers join us in our live audience that travelled from all over the USA.  It means so much that they gave up their time to travel so far to support us.

I also have to say it blow’s me away to receive so many thoughtful emails and messages – I read every single one and will try and reply to all of them. Thank you.

Kelly x

I am in the middle of Bumps to Babies and loving it. Thank you for sharing your passion and knowledge. I particularly appreciated when you touched on premature babies with the twins. My son, Kane, spent 54 days in the hospital and that has ignited a passion for shooting premature/medically fragile babies on a volunteer basis. I’m wondering if you have any advice or suggestions for working with these babies and their families. I’ve included links to the two blog posts I have done to date so you can see what I’ve tried. I completely understand if you don’t have time to respond. I am sure you have been inundated with emails!

CreativeLIVE ~ Newborn Posing

This morning I finished replying to almost 300 emails, and I just sat down to start replying to all of the facebook messages and posts made on my Little Pieces Photography page…. until I saw how many there were!  There are hundreds! 🙂  I would love to reply to each and every one of you that has shared your stories, thanked me and asked questions but it would take forever and I have lots of beautiful images to edit for all of the families that brought their brand new babies along to model at CreativeLIVE – plus I’m still a little jet lagged, and 3 little people here missed me 🙂

So – I thought I would do a big shout out to you all and let you know how much I appreciate every single email, message, post and comment.  Before going to CreativeLIVE I really didn’t know how many people would be interested in what I had to share about newborn photography.  And I am absolutely blown away at how many actually tuned into watch from around the world at all hours!

THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!!!!

My goal going there was to increase the awareness of posing newborns safely, inspire and to help raise the bar in our industry which is what CreativeLIVE is all about.

I’ve had lots of questions about my suppliers so here is a quick list…

  • Knit props ~ Love That Prop, Brand New Babe, Monkey Moo Moo, Bebe Boheme ~ Halos for Angels
  • Large props ~ Picsie Props, Drops and Props, Mr. & Mrs. And Co., Etsy
  • Beanbag for posing ~ Shoot Baby, Newborn Baby Posing Limited
  • Backdrop stand ~ Lightpro stand from Dragon Image, Australia
  • Timber Flooring ~ Ikea
  • Albums and print box ~ Photo Mounts & Albums Brisbane, Australia.
  • Canvas prints and Lumi Tiles ~ Brilliant Prints Brisbane, Australia.
  • Blankets/throws ~ any home ware stores
  • Clamps for backdrop stand ~ hardware store
  • Actions ~ Florabella, MCP, Itty Bitty, Totally Rad Actions
  • Tablet ~ Wacom
  • Camera strap ~ Bloom Theory
  • Baby Biscuits ~ I would love to share with you who makes them but have been asked not to. Sorry.

I have also had many emails requesting copies of my pricing guide and if you would like a copy you can download it as well as the Posing Guide and Settling Tips when you purchase the course from here… http://www.creativelive.com/courses/newborn-posing-kelly-brown

My pricing guide has been developed for my studio and remember every studio is different.

Being a part of CreativeLIVE is a dream come true!  When you first walk into their studios in Seattle you can feel the energy, everyone there loves their job!  There was so much excitement and joy from the minute I arrived as they have never produced a class quite like mine before 🙂  Seriously, 22 babies in 4 days!!!!  And I loved every minute of it 🙂

I have made life long friends from the family that is CreativeLIVE, to the 8 beautiful photographers that came to join me on set.

Thank you again for all of your support and kind words – it REALLY means a lot to me.

And I can’t have a post without a pic, so here is little Alyssa…

    Hello Kelly,

Thank you so much for sharing with us other photographers. I am a student at the Art Institute of Colorado in the US, a year ago after attending a newborn workshop with Julie Paisley. This is when I realized what direction I wanted my business to go, photographing newborns along with birth sessions was my passion. I have been building my portfolio for the last 9 months and graduate in June.

I signed up for this class a month ago, I was so excited to see that creative live had a newborn photographer come in to do a workshop. I have really enjoyed the first class. You are amazing with these precious little ones and really make it looks so seamless to move from one transition to the next. I have learned so much from watching you!

Hi Kelly! I’m sooooo excited that creativeLive is FINALLY having a photographer dedicated to newborn portraiture. Will you be taking any students to sit in the audience? I couldn’t find any info on submitting a video like their other courses… I LOVE your work and would do anything to be in your class!!!!! Well almost anything. 😉ReplyCancel
