Little Pieces Photography offers Maternity Photography.

It was amazing to have this beautiful mother to be in the studio.  Being able to capture her at this special time in her pregnancy is something that she will remember for a lifetime.

I’m back in Seattle  and ready to teach Baby Safety & Posing for Newborn Photographers tomorrow at CreativeLive!

And I’m excited to share that Stephanie Robin Photography – Newborn and Family Portraitist will be joining me as a special guest during tomorrows class I can’t wait!
Lets Make Safety A Priority And Put Clients At Ease!

1600

Parents hire newborn photographers to document every detail of their babies at that brief instant at the start of their lives when they are tiny, bright and new to the world. Newborn photographers can feel a lot of pressure to fulfill parents’ wishes. In the rush to capture the perfect shot, it’s easy to forget that the subject of these photos are incredibly fragile little beings. Safety should always come first.

Join ee for tips on handling newborns safely, reading their moods and needs, and prepping your studio for a newborn shoot. You’ll learn:

  • Safe posing techniques
  • How to operate a safe environment in your studio and on external shoots
  • How to understand newborn behavior

You’ll discover how to sanitize your studio, choose cleaning products and plants with the newborn’s health in mind, and make sure that your furniture and equipment meets newborn safety standards. I will also focus on safely posing and handling a newborn during the shoot. I will teach you how to execute poses like the Potato Sack, the Froggy pose, and other advanced techniques used to create composite images. You will learn about newborn anatomy and the environment they come from to help you better understand what they are capable of doing in a shoot setting: how to avoid imbalance, overheating, and injury.

Finally feel capable of communicating about newborn safety. If parents feel that they can trust you around their child, they will be put at ease and remember the experience of the shoot more fondly.

Pricing my work was one of the hardest challenges I faced. And it was a result of not valuing my own time and talent.

Over the past few years I have met many photographers that have felt the same way – Which is why we have created a Pricing Calculator specifically designed for photographers.

Our Pricing Calculator simplifies the process of working out what you need to charge per session to not only cover your cost of doing business but to also track your cost of living to help you determine what you need to pay yourself as a salary.

Following the step by step guide you can enter your information into Pricing Calculator that is completely customisable for YOU!

It also has an incredible feature which is the Profit and Loss Sales tracker where you can stay on top of your progress to achieve your goals from client to client throughout the year.

You can find more information about how it works and what’s included here

I bought this recently and as I’m only just starting out, it has been an invaluable tool! I’ve now worked out how much I need to charge my clients in order to make a living as well as gain profit. Just amazing and well worth the expense. Thank you so much!ReplyCancel

It’s hard to believe I’m writing this post while I’m in Daugu, Korea 🙂  Feeling very grateful for the opportunities to travel to the most amazing countries I have only dreamed of.   I am speaking at a 4 day photography conference for the Professional Photographers of Korea.  They have been so kind, and they are the most hospitable group of people I have met – plus a heap of  fun!

Anyway enough about my adventures 🙂 the real reason for this post is to share some photos of my brand new Brisbane Newborn Photography Studio. My husband and I have been planning this space for the past 3 years and it was finally completed 2 weeks ago – making ME the happiest baby photographer around!

My very talented Husband designed and created the shelving unit for all of my newborn props – which couldn’t be more perfect!  😀  He has done an incredible job putting the whole studio together – and with a little help from of our good friend Garrett.

And my stunning hand painted backdrop was created by Conny Rogers who has just started offering them to photographers.  The two canvas prints hanging on the wall are printed by Brilliant Prints.

I’m home from another incredible trip to creativeLIVE in Seattle!!!

My family and friends have all been so excited to hear what is was like this time back but I’m finding it really hard to describe an experience that’s like no other and just how much gratitude I have right now.  The team at creativeLIVE is like a family, they are so open and genuine and I have made life long friends there.

When Sue Bryce and I started to talk about teaching a class on maternity and baby photography.  I couldn’t think of anyone better to teach how to photograph the beauty of a pregnant women, and for me I was just completely honored to have been asked to share my love of photographing babies along side her.  So on the 23rd August we taught our very first class together on creativeLIVE called Bumps to Babies – Photographing Motherhood.

Sue has been a HUGE inspiration to me over the last few years.  She is always so incredibly generous with her knowledge and time and  has become a truly amazing friend.  Our aim in going on creativeLIVE is to help inspire and teach as many as we can so that our industry becomes stronger as a whole.

On day 1 we had 14 babies come into the creativeLIVE studio to be photographed.  I wanted to show just how unique every baby is not just in their personalities but as they develop in their first year with every month.   They were all so much fun to photograph – and had a few in the cL house clucking!  Day 2 was all about photographing families, Sue demonstrated how to pose families together so that everyone looked beautiful, comfortable and connected.  The main message of the day was YOU MUST EXIST IN IMAGES FOR YOUR FAMILY.  And on Day 3 Sue worked with 4 gorgeous pregnant women, showing beautiful simple posing techniques that can be used in any setting.  And to finish the day off Sue taught a powerhouse marketing segment that is not to be missed!

And then there’s the bonus material!!!  Sue, myself and Karen Willmore from Digital Mastery (Brilliant Designer) put together the following: a Month to Month Description of a Babies First year.  There’s a Maternity Posing Manual, a Family Posing Manual & Marketing Templates that include Birth Announcements, Online Proofing Cards, Session Reminders, a Digital Baby Scrap Book, Plus the Keynotes from all 3 days & Premature Twins and Maternity Posing Videos.

There is just so much packed into this class!!!

We also had 9 amazing photographers join us in our live audience that travelled from all over the USA.  It means so much that they gave up their time to travel so far to support us.

I also have to say it blow’s me away to receive so many thoughtful emails and messages – I read every single one and will try and reply to all of them. Thank you.

Kelly x

I am in the middle of Bumps to Babies and loving it. Thank you for sharing your passion and knowledge. I particularly appreciated when you touched on premature babies with the twins. My son, Kane, spent 54 days in the hospital and that has ignited a passion for shooting premature/medically fragile babies on a volunteer basis. I’m wondering if you have any advice or suggestions for working with these babies and their families. I’ve included links to the two blog posts I have done to date so you can see what I’ve tried. I completely understand if you don’t have time to respond. I am sure you have been inundated with emails!

I met this stunning Mother to be for her maternity session when she was 36wks pregnant, little did we know this perfect little bundle would arrive 12 days later!   Meet 10 day old Max 🙂

When this beautiful mother contacted me to photograph the birth of her second baby she had only just found out she was pregnant.  So we decided to document this special time right from the beginning.

Being there to capture this journey from the beginning – the excitement, the fear, the happiness and love has been one of the most beautiful experiences of my photography career.  I feel so honoured to have been there to share in these incredible moments with this family.

Photography is so important in telling our story, whether these life events are big or small, the pictures we take today will be seen by our generations to come – these images will become so much more powerful with each passing day….

Absolutely STUNNING Kelly. I discovered your work only recently with watching you on Creative Live. I found your instructions comforting since I was doing so many of the steps already but also very helpful and informative. But the most comforting thing about watching you work was your calming hypnotic manner. I also loved the British words like mummy and nappy and found it so funny they didn’t know it meant diaper! Hehe. I learnt so much and am desperate to try out he new positions and perfect the ones I already do. So thank you very very much! I know this beautiful mummy would have felt comforted and reassured having you with her throughout this time and find it truly beautiful that you have created such a gorgeous record of this amazing time. Stunning work. Truly.ReplyCancel

Hi Kelly, how special this is. Love the story and shared with my young boys who had a lot of questions answered….8:)

I purchased your class from Creative Live on Newborn Photography and have been watching it over and over. Now my studio will be complete and the way I do things as well. Thanks for a wonderful class.

I could really relate with your business model as I am also a mommy photographer with a husband who is gone for 4-5 weeks at the time and I stay home with our 5 children from 13-2 and try to make it all work. Having fun doing it, but it will be easier now after taking your class. Thank You.ReplyCancel
