AIPP QLD Professional Photographer of the Year 2013!!!

Putting my excitement into words is NOT easy!!!

Last weekend was the annual judging of the AIPP QLD Professional Photography Awards for 2013 here in Brisbane, with the Awards dinner held on Monday night.

Sunday I went to watch the judging of both the Family and Portrait categories along with many other hopeful photographers eager to see their images come up and be judged by 5 Master Photographers.  Each judge gives the image a score out of 100 and the average score is given to your print.   It’s exciting and nerve racking all at the same time and I love it!!!

So this year my main goal is to achieve my Master of Photography status with the AIPP in September at the National Awards, to gain your Masters you have to earn 15 points within 5 years of becoming an accredited member of the AIPP.  Each Silver award is worth one point and each Gold award is worth two and you can only enter 4 images.   I need two points!!!   and these points can only be achieved at the National Awards not State.

At our State Awards we’re allowed to enter a maximum of 12 images but only 4 images into each category.  So I entered 4 into Family and 4 into Portrait in hope to find my 4 strongest images to send off to APPA’s in September.  I was ecstatic that my 8 entries were awarded 1 Gold, 2 Silver with Distinction and 4 Silvers.   Never in my wildest dreams did I expect at the awards dinner that my awarded images would win both categories and then I would be announced the AIPP QLD Professional Photographer of the Year for 2013!!!!!!

WOW is all I say every time I look at the trophy sitting in my office!   I just can’t describe how it feels, I had absolutely know idea that I would ever come close to winning something like this!!  And I’m only the 4th women to have their name on this trophy!!!!

I left my finished digital images with Foto Frenzy for printing and Matting and then the delivery of my print case, as I had to be in Seattle before the entry deadline.  Darren did such an amazing job  – I can’t thank him enough!

I also want to thank all of the judges and volunteers who put in countless hours of their valuable time to help us on our quest in becoming better photographers by entering these awards.  If it wasn’t for them these events wouldn’t be possible.  I also want to congratulate all of the other Category winners and finalists – their entries were AMAZING!  Queensland is full of so many talented to photographers.
