AIPP QLD Family Photographer of the Year 2012!!!!

Over the weekend the QLD Professional Photography Awards were held here in Brisbane.  Entering the awards is so nerve racking I often think why do I put myself through it!  But I know if I didn’t I would be disappointed.  This is my 3rd year of entering and every year I learn so much, not only from listening to the judges but seeing all of the awarded images on display and being able to talk to so many incredible photographers during the weekend.

This year I entered 8 prints – 4 into Portrait and 4 into Family.  I received a Gold and a Silver in Portrait and 3 Silvers in Family.  A Gold award is something I have dreamt about, so to actually achieve one is just amazing – it still hasn’t really sunk in!

You can only enter 4 images into a category, each image goes up before a panel of 5 highly awarded judges where they each give it a score out of 100 and then the average score is what you are awarded.  80-84 is Silver, 85-89 Silver Distinction, 90-94 is Gold and 95 + is Gold Distinction.   After all of that the entrant with the highest scoring 4 prints is the winner of that category.  Sooooo –  to top off my already amazing weekend, last night at the awards dinner it turns out that my 3 Silvers + my other image which scored a 79  made me the winner of the Family  Category!!!!  🙂

I’m feeling a little fuzzy today after the celebrations 🙂 and can’t even remember what I said when I had to give a little (27 second) speech so, incase I haven’t already – THANK YOU to all of the volunteers that do all of the behind the scenes work and the judges for giving up their time to make it all happen. Even though I have felt seriously ill at times agonising over which images to enter and then having to sit there and watch them get judged – I LOVE IT!!!  And also a massive CONGRATULATIONS to all of the other winners and runner’s up.

Unfortunately I can’t share with you all of the images that I entered because of the Australian Professional Photography Awards that are coming up in May so here are a couple of my silvers 🙂
